Mar. 8th, 2011 @ 10:22 am MusicDish "Secret Sounds Vol. 1" Playlist

Mi2N regularly features incredible bands and talent, well before more mainstream outlets take notice. For over a decade, I've selfishly kept this well-known secret to myself, hoarding all this great music in an age of sharing... well, no more! I'm proud to announce the first edition of MusicDish Secret Sounds playlist, featuring music and bands you probably haven't heard of yet! There are no rules though to this playlist - no boundaries on genres, countries, status (signed/unsigned) - the only thing they share in common is that they struck my ear... and that they are sourced from Mi2N.
Want you music to be considered? Go to Mi2N to submit your music release announcement (the newer, the better) or look for our drop box on the homepage. Now on to the music...

Feb. 9th, 2011 @ 09:16 am MIDEM 2011 Recap: Classical Music Out, Taiwan Music In

Estimating numbers as to how much attendance at MIDEM has decreased over the prior year has become something of a ritual. In this respect, MIDEM has become something of a barometer for the recorded music industry and the news is not good. Official attendance numbers released by conference organizer ReedMIDEM were 6,800, down 5%. For anyone who hadn't been to MIDEM for a few years, they would barely be able to recognize it for all the sections of the Palais now off-limits (including our old Press Club, much to my chagrin).
Having said that, there are bright spots. MIDEM welcomed a record number of music managers (150) as well as significant increases in attending publishers (+25%) and digital/tech companies (+29%) - trends that certainly reflect some of the growth sectors in the industry. Also, 33% of 2011 attendees were newbies, ie., first timers, indicating that there are still new players, new ideas, and people who are still willing to take their chances with music . Considering our particular economic circumstances, one might wonder why.

New talent is set to perform at the heart of MIDEM 2011 with the launch of a new Fringe performance stage inside the main MIDEM exhibition hall.
21 groups drawn from Canada, Germany, France, Austria, the United States, Russia, Spain and Britain, will perform live between January 23 and January 25, giving MIDEM delegates the opportunity to discover new 'underground' acoustic talent without having to leave MIDEM's venue, the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. All groups will appear for a second series of evening gigs at one of the three Cannes venues which are also hosting the Fringe - Morrison's Irish Pub, The Lounge and The Quay's Irish Pub.

Apr. 2nd, 2009 @ 03:38 pm ATTENTION ALL UK METAL BANDS/ACTS!
I Feel...: determined

Are you an unsigned Metal act/band based in the UK?

Are you wanting to take yourselves to the top?

Are you ready for an amazing opportunity?

Yes to all of the above? Then read on...

Ten very special acts/bands are needed to appear on a metal compliation album to raise money for the NSPCC:

The CD itself will be a fully packaged and professionally recorded album of original metal tracks from unsigned acts/bands throughout the UK.

It will be advertised both locally and nationally, in press, radio and possibly television (via local news shows etc.)

It will be sold both nationally and locally in shops (we are aiming for the big chains), at festivals, at gigs and via the internet.

We are talking BIG exposure here - being on this album will give you a massive promotion opporunity, as well as commanding the attention of the UK metal scene - and who knows where it will lead?

We need 10 bands/acts to record one of their tracks for the album.

It will be recorded in a new professional purpose-built recording studio based in Hull (East Yorkshire).

The Sound engineer and producer of the album will be Dan Foster, who studied Engineering/Production at the prestigious school of audio engineering (SAE) where upon graduation he went on to work with artists such as Sweet Box, Dana International, Jane Macdonald and Manchester United to name a few.

Additional to this Dan has worked extensively in the Radio industry and toured internationally as a professional Keyboard player. Boasting 25 years of musical expertise, he is the perfect man to bring this project to life!

The aim is to record each band, one after the other, in 10 days. We are looking for a film maker to make a fly-on-the-wall documentry about the making of this charity CD that will hopefully be sold in DVD form with the album as a special edition version.

The recording of this album is being seen as an event in itself, with the best unsigned metal bands coming together from throughout the UK to end child cruelty. We hope to raise the profile of metal music in the general publics eyes by taking this often misunderstood/feared genre and doing something positive with it. Think about it - you could be a part of a change in the perception of metal music as a whole!

We need each band to COMMIT FULLY to this project - to push this album as much as possible - to do some leg work by contacting their local press/radio/TV (which ever part of the UK your from!) and generally making sure this album is in the public eye. we need lots of copies of this CD sold to help vulnerable children in the UK!

Think you have what it takes?

Send us your myspace URL (hopefully with somesort of demo up so we can see what you sound like!) and an explanation of why you believe you should be included on the album to this myspace:

Hey guys! I come bearing some unsigned music!

Artist: John Emmell
Album: John Emmell EP
Country: Sweden
Genre: Pop
Size/Format: 18.28 MB/zip file
Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R61540S2
About: John Emmell is an up and coming artist from Uppsala, Sweden. He began his music career bouncing between garage bands. He has spent the past two years as the lead singer with the Swedish pop/rock band Her New Fancy, before deciding to go after a more synth/electronic based pop on his own. He draws from a lot of different influences and is also fantastic live. I highly recommend that you check out his myspace (www.myspace.com/johnemmell) and his website (http://www.johnemmell.com/). Like most Swedes, he prefers to sing in English for the most part, so as to reach a wider audience with his music. This is his debut solo EP and is definitely worth a listen.

He also just launched a new song on his Myspace called "15 Minutes of Fame" which uploaded as well for download. (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WCH61PV0)
